Precyse Solutions to Sponsor FORE Scholarships and e-HIM Work Group - Hybrid EHR
King of Prussia, PA, and Chicago, IL September 5, 2003 -– Precyse Solutions today announced it will sponsor two of the American Health Information Management Association's (AHIMA) Foundation of Research and Education (FORE) merit scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students pursuing degrees in health information administration and health information technology. In addition, Precyse has provided a grant to FORE to be the exclusive sponsor of the new AHIMA electronic health information management (e-HIM) Work Group - Hybrid Electronic Health Record (EHR), to research and develop standards in electronic medical records.
Precyse Solution's FORE Scholarship will be awarded based on assessment of the following criteria:
·
Grade point average and academic achievement
·
Volunteer and work experience
·
Commitment to the HIM profession
·
Suitability to the HIM profession
·
Quality and suitability of references provided
The scholarships are also available to credentialed health information management (HIM) professionals pursuing graduate degrees to further their careers in HIM. Detailed information and applications for the scholarships can be obtained at http://www.ahima.org/fore/programs.html. The next application deadline is May 31, 2004.
A strategic focus for AHIMA in 2003 is to facilitate the transition from the paper record to the electronic record and define roles for HIM in the process. The Precyse sponsored e-HIM Work Group - Hybrid EHR will be comprised of volunteer experts in the subject area along with an AHIMA liaison. The standards developed by the workgroup will provide resources and guidance to members, according to Cindy Doyon, RHIA, and West Coast Client Strategy Director for Precyse Solutions.
"It is the desire of AHIMA and Precyse to allow these tools to help position HIM professionals to be part of the transition process to the electronic health record." said Doyon.
The charter and goals of AHIMA for the e-HIM Work Group - Hybrid EHR is to provide practice guidelines on how to manage and process records in a hybrid state. This includes how to define the legal record as well as how to manage many of the traditional functions in an HIM department such as release of information, assembly, analysis, delinquency rates, etc.
The results of the Work Group's efforts will be distributed to all attendees at the 2003 AHIMA National Convention, October 18-23, 2003 and made available to the industry later this year.
Simultaneous to the AHIMA effort, numerous Precyse HIM professionals are attending recent open forum meetings designed to gather feedback on the EHR model and standards being developed by HL7 before they are delivered to the Department of Health and Human Services. "Our collective commitment to impacting the value and quality of what ultimately becomes the official standard in medical history is exciting!" said Beth Kost, RHIA, and Precyse's vice president of Business Development.
